Safely Home  / Sally Mario's Mom (In God's Eyes A Friend )
Patty,

You have been an inspiration to me.  As you know, I lost my only son at the age of 22 on June 25, 2005.  But I have to tell you, it's people like you who gives me hope, encouragement, and your kind spiritual words that help me keep going in life.

God must have had a plan when he took your brother Gary home to heaven.  If you have been able to touch me with your spiritual words, prayers and yet I live so far away.  I only wonder how many more people have you helped by talking about God to them.

As long as you and I keep our faith in this journey of life on earth, we too, will unite with our loved ones some day.  At times I feel as if time goes by so slow for when I catch-up with my son.  Then friends like you come around to encourage me by saying: "Time here seems like a long time, but when we arrive with our loved ones, we will look back and say, 'Wow! that was fast' "

Gary is home in heaven now.  He can see and knows exactly how much you miss him.  It's those times when you feel so lonely, that God allows your brother to be beside you for comfort.  Both God and Gary are watching over you.

Patty, your brother is so proud of you for keeping your faith strong. This year for THANKSGIVING you and I will be thankfull to God for giving us such a gooood brother and such a goooood son. God Bless you, your family, and friends.

I will pray for you and your brother Gary.

In God's Love
your friend

Remembering Thanksgiving and Gary  / Luke Haggard (Friend)

Well, it was just after my birthday (Nov. 15) and Thanksgiving was coming up along with the other Holiday festivities. Gary, myself and some other guys went to Rivergate Mall to hang out and check out the local ladies as they shopped for Christmas. The place is packed and Gary was like a man on a mission. Gary was walking through the mall with that leaning forward walk he had (and no one could keep up with him) when he stops right in the middle of the Mall and starts yelling "Hey! Hey! Anybody seen my Mommy?!" The whole place turns to look at him and we all just crack up laughing watching this fool yell at the top of his lungs. Here stands this 6 foot tall frame of a guy shouting for his Mommy. About that time, two very pretty girls are walking by and he asked them, if they had seen his Mommy. They looked scared at first but then started laughing. He then asks them if they would be is Mommy and the next thing you know, he's sitting on the fountain edge with them talking and exchanging phone numbers. They were both from Goodlettsville High School and this nut manages to pull of what has to be the worst pick-up line in the world. Of course the rest of us guys joined him as he talked to the girls and they simply thought he was cute and wanted to meet him. Anyway, while this is going on, some nut puts Dish Washing detergent in the Fountain at the Mall! Remember the fountain at Rivergate? You have to be as old as me to remember this massive pool of water. The suds start to build and before you know it, they're rolling over the wall and everyone is playing in the suds in the middle of the mall! It gets so bad, you can't see the wall of fountain and Gary is up walking on the top of wall acting like he's walking on clouds and the next thing you know, he slips! He didn't fall in the water but his feet were certainly wet. Mall security shows up and he is taken to the Mall security office and questioned. We ran to his aid and begged for his release which was finally granted. But I still think they believe he did it. Well, what do you know, about 2 weeks later when Santa was in the mall doing pictures with the kiddies this same scenario happens again. Guess who was there? Not me. We heard that someone was over heard yelling in the mall, "Look, Santa made it snow!"

When the holiday's roll around, I always remember this day. It was absolutely a great time and Gary was always the center of attention. Happy Thanksgiving Gary and we miss you dearly. Your friend, Luke Haggard.

P.S. Somehow I let Halloween get by without telling the TP story to everyone. Oh this one is funny and involves a well known pharmacists.

My Friend  / Susan~Kurt (connected by angels )
He has solved it, life's wonderful problem,

The deepest, the strangest, the last,

And into the school of the angels

With the answer forever has passed.

How strange he should sleep so profoundly,

So young, so unworn by the strife,

While beside him, brimful of hope's nectar,

Untouched, stood the goblet of life.

God knew all about it; how noble,

How gentle he was, and how brave;

How bright his possible future,

Yet put him to sleep in his grave.

God knew all about those who loved him

How bitter the trial must be;

And right through it all, God is loving,

And knows so much better than we

Wrap you angel wings  / Patty (#1 Sister )

Bubba,

I am writing to you tonight, because I need to talk to you like we use to do so bad. Shane is in some really serious trouble, but you probably already know this. I need for you to wrap your angel wings around he and I both and keep us safe. This news has just about broke me down and it already has him. I am praying as well as our whole family that this turns out alright, but you being with us and help protecting us I don't fell as helpless. Bubba you know he is my baby and he is not a bad kid he has just made a really bad decision, a very serious decision! I know with God and you around us things will work out. Things just look so dim right now, but I know there has got to be better days ahead. Please stay close, I really need to know you are there.

I love and miss you with all my heart!

Hug and Kisses on Butterfly wings sent your way.

Bubba, I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought of you yesterday and will tomorrow too! You don't get over it you just get through it. You don't get by it, because you can't get around it. It doesn't get better, it just gets different everyday. I love and miss you little brother!

My Brother  / Patty (#1 Sis )
As kids, we lived together, we fought, we laughed, we cried. We did not always show the love, that we both had inside. We shared our dreams and plans, and some secrets too. All the memories we shared, is what bonds me now to you. We grew to find we have a love, that is very strong today. It's a love shared by our family, that will never fade away. You are my brother not by choice, but by the nature of our birth. I could not have chosen a better one, you were the best on earth, now in Heaven! Close

Patty, there's so many things that I can share and say about Gary but I would have to write a novel. From the time we first met until the night you got the speeding ticket for drag racing in Madison in front of K-mart (yeah I remember). May God be with you and remove the pain you feel and fill your heart with the love and memory of one of my best friends and your brother "Tator." I can still see that carved in a desk at school and will always have the picture in our High School Annual.

Now, let's reflect:
Mr. Caldwell picked Gary and myself to do a short film on the "City of Nashville" and present it to the class. We made these "Directed by", "Produced by" and "Edited By" signs in Mr. Halls class on this vaccum forming machine he made in shop while the rest of the class was building stools or shoe boxes. Mr. Caldwell got us a camera and some film, gave us some instructions and sent us on our way.

Gary's Dad loaded us up in the El Camino and took us to Nashville about 7:00am in the morning and off we go. We had no idea where we were going or how to get there but we went. We went to the museum, the t.v. stations, the L & C tower and the Capitol. Gary got the bright idea to go walking through the capitol and shooting some film. Which turned out very good for teenagers. While there we were told by an officer to leave because we were in a restricted area. He turns to leave and Gary jumps in a room behind a door dragging me behind him. The officer got out of sight and here we go walking through the "restricted area" again. Well, we hear some footsteps and jump into another room. There was this hudge room and a huge desk with this huge bookshelf behind it with plaques and pictures everywhere. We didn't know where were were but this office was cool. Gary starts the camera and gets film of the office and then the desk which had a cup of coffee on it still steaming. From an adjoining room, we here a toilet flush and we bolted out of the room back into the hall where the nice officer helped us find our way back downstairs. We laughed and ran out of the capitol but we thought we were cool for getting that far in the building at around 7:30 in the morning.

Then it was off to the L&C tower where we decided to go to the top and take some film. Tator decides to walk the steps and avoid being asked where we were going after the captiol episode. Let me tell you friends, that's a lot of walking. But we got there and got our footage.

Later we ended up on church street where somehow we make our way to Printer's Alley. Remember that? That was a site for two young men in junior high let me tell ya. Some of that film hit the editing room floor (Gary's basement). Yeah, we got some film and left.

We finished up the day and met Gary's dad where he dropped us off and went back to Gary's house to do the editing. We got an A+ on the project but we got a lifetime of memories. What a day that was.

Oh yeah, drag racing. Seems I remember something about a Camero (gold I think it was with a black vinyl top). Two high school girls up front and two junior high boys in the back. The girls are being teased by some guys in a Mustang and Patty decides to show them what the Camero could do. She does it and would have beaten them but some nice police officer decided to invite her to the policeman's ball with a nice little ticket. LOL. Of course, Gary was in the back seat egging her on. Man, did she let him have it after that! But when we looked back we all laughed and again, just a bunch of great memories.

Take care Patty and some day we'll all be with Gary in the great Kingdom of Heaven. We love you and we miss you Tator!

Love always,
Luke Haggard Close

Patty,
Thanks for putting up this site for Gary.  I remember so many stories about Gary but I'll share a couple here.  Early in our days of Boy Scouts all of us guys were on a camping trip.  While sitting around the fire, Mr. Albert Lutz (Denny's dad) commented on Gary's closely cut hairstyle.  Mr. Lutz said Gary's head looked like a "slick potato" and from that night on, everyone called Gary "Tator head".  He took it with good nature and eventually everyone knew him as "Tator"  Gary, Tom Harbison and myself were always getting into trouble from laughing during Brother Thomason's church service.  Gary went through a period of time when every time he saw a friend, he would say; "Hey Jack".  I could almost count on Harbison starting the laughing and Gary and I couldn't hold back.
Gary, Tom and I were very close through Jr. High.  Gary started working at the Blue Jay grill before most of us thought about a real job.  He bought that "chopper" motorcycle that we thought was the coolest.  I counted Gary as one of my closest friends through school and knew that he would do anything for me.  I would have done likewise.  I'll always have great memories of our many fun times together.
